Barclay Trimble to Leave Cape Hatteras National Seashore
National Park Service (NPS) Southeast Regional Director Stan Austin has announced the selection of Barclay Trimble as Deputy Regional Director. Trimble is currently Superintendent of the Outer Banks Group, which consists of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Wright Brothers National Memorial, and Fort Raleigh National Historic Site – all in North Carolina. A 23 year veteran of the NPS, Trimble will arrive in Atlanta to assume his new duties in August.
Trimble will oversee the Southeast Region park planning and compliance program, land resources program center, and equal opportunity and diversity programs. He will also be responsible for the Appalachian-Piedmont Cluster, which encompasses national park units in Kentucky, Tennessee, as well as portions of Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
“Barclay recognizes the value of strong business sense in the management of national parks and has a strong history of accomplishing great things through collaboration across the federal government and with a wide range of partners,” says Austin. “We look forward to capitalizing on Barclay’s background in accounting and his diverse work experiences to round out our team of exceptional leaders here in the Southeast.”
Trimble graduated from University of Texas at San Antonio in business administration and is a certified public accountant. His career has progressed from financial management positions in the Washington, D.C. office of the NPS to positions of increasing responsibility at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Denali National Park, the NPS Intermountain Regional Office, and Grand Canyon National Park, as well as time spent working with the National Transportation Safety Board.

My wife, Lana, and I are excited about the move and look forward to becoming established in the Atlanta area and exploring the many opportunities with our kids.”
The NPS Southeast Region stretches from Kentucky and North Carolina on the north to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and from Louisiana to the Atlantic Coast with 66 park units. On average, 62 million visitors trek to these units annually, served by over 3000 federal employees. Four of the top ten visited national parks are in the Southeast Region: Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Natchez Trace Parkway, and Gulf Islands National Seashore.
