Hyde County Announces Recreation & Parks Master Plan Public Meetings

Press Release

Hyde County is currently in the process of updating its 2002 Parks and Recreation Master Plan to guide future development of local recreational facilities.

The update will include a comprehensive inventory of existing programs and facilities, as well as recommendations for meeting the County’s needs.  The update will be carried out by the Hyde County Recreation Committee and is funded through a Community Transformation Grant.

Community input is critical! Every voice is important – adults and kids. After the update is complete Hyde County will seek out funding for programs and projects identified in the plan.  There will be two public meetings to gather community input about recreational needs, preferences, and priorities:

•  Ocracoke: Monday February 10, 2014 from 6-7 PM
Ocracoke Community Center: 999 Irvin Garrish Hwy, Ocracoke, NC 27960

•  Swan Quarter: Wednesday February 19, 2014 from 7-8 PM
Hyde County Government Center Multi-Purpose Room: 30 Oyster Creek Rd, Swan Quarter, NC 27885

The Hyde County Recreation Committee was formed in April 2012 and is comprised of two citizens from each township and Commissioner Tunnel.  The Committee meets regularly on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Hyde County Government Center Multi-Purpose Room as well as the Ocracoke School Commons via teleconferencing.
