Some Ferry Runs Cancelled Due to TS Andrea

Press Release

Strong winds from Tropical Storm Andrea have made ferry travel between Ocracoke and both Cedar Island and Swan Quarter too dangerous, so the afternoon trips on those routes have been cancelled.

That means the following trips will not take place:

  • Cedar Island to Ocracoke: 1, 4 p.m.;
  • Ocracoke to Cedar Island: 1, 3, 4:30 p.m.;
  • Swan Quarter to Ocracoke: 1, 4:30 p.m.; and
  • Ocracoke to Swan Quarter: 12:45, 4 p.m.

If weather conditions improve, it is possible the Cedar Island to Ocracoke trip at 5:30 p.m. could take place, as well as the Ocracoke to Cedar Island trip at 8 p.m.

Editor's note: A quick call to the Hatteras ferry station (252) 986-2353 gave me the following information:

The Ocracoke-Hatteras ferries are running. They may be a little late because it is taking the ferries a bit longer to get through the channel, but they are, at this time, still running at the captains' discretion. As long as the captains deem it is safe, they will keep running. It's always a good idea to call ahead for current conditions.
