The fifth annual WOVV Women's Arm Wrestling Smackdown is scheduled for June 26.

Anyone interested in helping with coordination and at the event is encouraged to meet at the WOVV studio on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. If the number of people that show up reaches the double digits, organizers William Howard and Jenny Scarborough say they'll move the meeting next door to SmacNally's where it all began, and buy the first round.

The event helps keep the island's non-commercial radio station, 90.1 FM, on the air. Ocracoke's Village Voice can be heard across the globe at wovv.org.

Prizes are awarded to the top competitors, though competition for Best Costume rivals the main event. Favorites from years past include Scarlet O'Terror, Lucille Ballbuster, June Cleavage, Dora the Destroyer and Pat Minotaur.

Volunteers are need to help work the door, check id's at the beer garden, man the kegs of Outer Banks Brewing Station beer, and assist with set up and break down. It's fun. It's cool. There might be free swag. Get involved.
