Storytime At Ocracoke's Book Fair!

Tuesday night was Family Night at Ocracoke Library! The event kicked off the Scholastic Book Fair to benefit the library and Ocracoke School classrooms.

Scholastic is running a special this spring, and every book is Buy One, Get One Free!

School librarian Ann Borland asked three parents to read aloud for Family Night. Helena Stevens, Tyke Ely, and Sue O'Neal all did an excellent job sharing books with the children. After hearing about donut-eating dogs, whale-infested buckets, and baseball-playing ducks, the kids were begging for more! But no more stories – it was time to shop!

Gavin had $8 to spend.

High school students were volunteer cashiers. Bright and shining were the faces of the little book buyers.

One almost-six-year-old girl known to this writer was so excited about her purchases that she had to carry her bag of books into the Variety Store on the way home because she couldn't bear to leave them in the car for even a moment.

The Scholastic Book Fair is a great fundraiser for the Ocracoke Library. Don't have a youngen to buy for? Consider donating a book to the library or to a classroom (their Wish Lists are available, of course.)

Book Fair hours are: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday 8 a.m. til 7 p.m. On Saturday, you can shop 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., and the Book fair will also be open on Sunday 2 - 4 p.m.

It will all close down after Monday, so don't miss the fun, the bargains, and the happy little children.
