Occupancy Tax Recommendations on Tonight's Agenda

Hyde Commissioners will likely vote on the Occupancy Tax Board's recommendations tonight.

Commissioner Darlene Styron said she believes the board will  approve the OTB budget as recommended.  It was merely oversight, due to a large agenda, that caused the item to not be included in the published agenda, said Styron.

County manager Mazie Smith sets the agenda.  Commissioners are free to add to the agenda and table items, but otherwise have little influence over its contents, said Styron.

Rumors circulated Ocracoke Monday morning that Commissioners were delaying a vote on the OTB recommendations until after Tuesday's primary.  "That is not correct," said Styron.  "I don't know who would start that."

The Commissioner's meeting begins at 6 p.m. in Ocracoke School's common area.  The Board of Education meets at 5 p.m., and will present their annual budget at tonight's meeting.
