O'Neal of the Week: Lucy O'Neal

Lucy is a freshman member of the Lady Dolphins basketball team.

She was instrumental in her team earning the conference co-championship this season. She’s been playing basketball since 4th grade, and played two years on the Middle School team. She was nominated for all-conference player of the year.

Her parents are Tina Robinson and Ikey O’Neal, both Ocracoke residents.

In the summer, Lucy plays on the Carolina All-Stars, a team out of Durham that’s part of the Amateur Athletic Union. She traveled to South Carolina, Georgia, and Ohio last year to play in AAU tournaments. Her team was ranked number one in the 14-and-under age group. The Carolina All-Stars invited her to be on the team after meeting her when Coach Adam Burleson took her and three other Ocracoke girls to a basketball showcase.
