Egg-cellent Donation for Ocracoke

Press Release
Egg-cellent Donation for Ocracoke
Rose Acre Farms donates eggs; pick up Friday at Lifesaving Church.

Of the 3,200 dozen eggs that Rose Acre Farms donated to Hyde County, 720 were sent to Ocracoke Island.

On 03/23/2020, Hyde County Manager Kris Cahoon Nobel contacted the Ocracoke Interfaith Relief and Recovery Team to include Ocracoke Island in Rose Acre Farm's generous donation to Hyde County.

Rose Acre Farms donated the eggs, which have been stored in a refrigerated tractor trailer on the Mattamuskeet School Campus, in order to provide nutritional assistance for those impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

On the mainland, the eggs were distributed through the school lunch pickup program, Meals on Wheels, and BRACE.

On Ocracoke Island, we will be distributing through the Ocracoke School Meals program, Meals on Wheels, and Lifesaving Church's Bread of Life Food Pantry Hamper Delivery.

Any residents outside of these programs are encouraged to attend a resident-only pickup which will take place this Friday in the Lifesaving Church parking lot from 10am to 12pm, and 5pm to 6pm. To promote social distancing, please stay in your vehicle and call 360-362-9796 upon arrival. The eggs will be brought to your car.

Thank you to Jan Moore of the Mattie Arts Center for coordinating distribution with Ocracoke Island and mainland Hyde County.

We also thank The Flying Melon for allowing our temporary use of their cold-storage, as well as Callie and Corey Carawan from Mattamuskeet Seafood for securing and performing the transport of the eggs to the island on 03/30/2020 in a refrigerated truck.
