Control Group to Meet Again 3/18

COVID-19 Update from commissioner Tom Pahl and Ocracoke Control Group.

Tom Pahl posted on the following on Facebook on Tuesday evening:

The Ocracoke Control Group met this morning and agreed to recommend the adoption of a declaration of a state of emergency. That declaration would put a limit on public gatherings and suggest other gatherings self-limit to fewer that ten people. Other pieces of the declaration would recommend protective measures for individuals and businesses, including cleaning protocols and personal hygienic measures as suggested by the CDC. The group discussed a visitor restriction and decided any such thing should not be unilateral, but should be in concert with Dare and other surrounding counties and with the State.

Shortly after we adjourned, we were informed that Dare had decided to implement a visitor evacuation to block entrance into Dare County of visitors, but to allow Hyde County interests and residents to pass through, as well as to allow suppliers, workforce, key personnel to enter and leave at will. In addition, the State has declared the closure of sit-down dining and bar service throughout the state. (Restaurant take-out is still OK).

We followed immediately with an administrative phone conference and agreed to re-convene the Ocracoke Control Group this afternoon to consider a recommendation to follow Dare's steps. We will also consult with other surrounding counties and with Mainland folks, as this decision would have county-wide implications. There will be further discussion tomorrow and an official announcement to follow.
