Monday, March 2nd:

6pm: Hyde County Board of Commissioners meeting @ Community Center. Click here to view the agenda and packets. The meeting will take place via teleconferencing equipment in the Hyde County Government Center Multi-Use Room and in the Ocracoke Community Center. The public is invited to attend and make public comments. 

Tuesday, March 3rd 

6:30am: Polls OPEN for the NC Primary Election! On Ocracoke, we vote at the Fire Department. (Enter through the back door.) 6:30am–7:30pm. See sample ballots here. (Voters will not be required to show photo ID for the March 3, 2020 primary election. In a December 31 order, a federal district court blocked North Carolina’s voter photo ID requirement from taking effect. The injunction will remain in place until further order of the court.)

9am: Teresa Adams office hours @ Hyde County office at the Community Center: 9am-Noon. She has information on Individual Assistance (for people who have been denied Small Business Administration (SBA) loans); food stamp information; housing applications to elevate homes; Legal Aid info; Back At Home; Trillium information; re-entry permits and and permits for people who want their families to help; contractors lists; and various online information. Her phone number is 252-921-0053. The Legal Aid number is 866-219-5262.  

4:30pm: Post-Dorian Support Group meeting @ Lightship Realty: Free support group for grief and loss. All residents are welcome. With the holidays there will be more acute feelings of loss for many on the island. Our recovery from Dorian continues to influence how we respond to daily events on the island. Sharing space with others in a safe, supportive environment and talking about the challenges and learning tools for coping can make a difference. Facilitated by Ruth Fordon and Desiree Ricker.  

Wednesday, March 4th: 

7pm: Island Trivia @ 1718 Brewery. $2 to play. Form teams of up to 4 people. Show off how smart you are! 

Thursday, March 5th:

5:30pm: Planning Board meeting @ Community Center. All are welcome to attend. The board would like input about the proposed new proposed new ordinance about travel trailers.

9:30am: Family Story Time with Ms Claire @ Ocracoke Library/WOVVMeet in the Ocracoke Library's temporary space in the upstairs lobby of WOVV Radio Station (next to the library building.) Family Story Time will alternate between English and Spanish stories -- this week will be Spanish! Claire Senseney, who has been trained in Motheread/Fatheread, will be your host. Family Story Time provides a time for parents/guardians and their children to come together to enjoy a story, followed by a fun craft. No matter your first language, please join us every other Saturday for stories and crafts! Sponsored by the 21st Century Community Learning Center and the Hyde Coalition for Children.

12noon: Warming Center/Open House @ OUMC Rec HallWe will be open 12pm-5pm. Coffee and treats... and plenty of games, books, and friendly conversation for everyone who wants to stop by and say Hi. Organized by Meredith Rollman.

Hello, Sunshine! Dalylight Saving Time begins at 2:00am. 

Services @ both churches: Ocracoke United Methodist (9am @ Rec Hall) and Ocracoke Assembly of God (Sunday School 10am, services at 11am and 6pm; also Wednesday night service at 7pm).
