Obituary for Doris Winslow Williams

Doris Winslow Williams, 99, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 8, 2020.

She was born on November 2, 1920 to Ruth Brown and Joseph Robert Winslow, in Gates County, NC but grew up in Robersonville, NC. She resided at Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, NC at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Joseph R. Winslow and Henry Winslow, her daughter, Frances Goins Wilhoit, her husbands Frank Goins and J.L. Williams, and her daughters-in-law, Nancy Peacock Goins and Helen Everett Goins. 

Left to cherish her memory are her son-in-law Cleve Wilhoit of Bloomington, IN; son Winslow Goins of Rocky Mount, NC; son Robert Goins and wife Peggy of Kinston, NC; daughter Carol Dolan or Gloucester, Pt., VA; son Joe Goins and wife Catherine Everett of New Bern, NC; daughter Ruth Toth and husband Bob of Ocracoke, NC; and step-daughter Norma Williams McMurry and husband Don of Fayetteville, GA. 

She is deeply missed by her grandchildren Hannah Boston and husband Mark, Peter Wilhoit and wife Kathy DeStefano, Traci Goins and wife Kim Fox, Clay Goins and wife Susan, Hollie Kernan, Everett Goins and wife Tammy, Jake Dolan and wife Amanda, Nathan Dolan and wife Candace, Elizabeth Perkins and husband Sean, Winslow Goins and wife Sarah, Jesse Goins, Zachary Goins, Eason Goins and wife Sarah, and Charlotte Goins. Doris has fifteen great-grandchildren: Isabel and Maria Boston, Ethan and Sophia Wilhoit, Chase Goins, Julia Anne Kernan, James, Rebecca, and Emily Goins, Maya Dolan, Nate Dolan, Caelan and Kai Perkins, Betsy Goins, and Eason Goins. 

Doris was also loved by three step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. 

Doris was devoted to her family, friends, and church. After retiring from teaching at Robersonville and Roanoke High School, she enjoyed entertaining her family and friends at her cottage in Ocracoke. The lives of everyone who knew her were enriched by her love, wisdom, humor, and capacity to enjoy life. 

HEr family deeply appreciates the care and love she was given by the Cypress Glen staff, her caregivers, the staff at Vidant Hospital, her friends and church families, and her pastors, David Brown and Karen Crutchfield. 

Her funeral service will be Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Robersonville, followed by her burial in Martin Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior in the church Fellowship Hall. Flowers are welcome or a memorial donation to First Christian Church, PO Box 755, Robersonville, NC 27871 or a charity of one's choice.
