Construction has begun on new restroom facilities.

If you've been to the Lifeguard Beach parking lot recently, you probably noticed the construction zone. NPS sent out the following information today. (For some reason, the Park Service calls the Lifeguard Beach the "Ocracoke Day Use Area." But it's open 24 hours a day, and is quite a nice "Night Use Area" as well.)

A project to replace the restroom facility at the Ocracoke Day Use Area was recently started by contractor APEX Construction, Inc. (Ocean City, MD). The new, fully accessible restroom facility is expected to be completed and reopened by mid-June 2019.

During the construction phase of the $349,000 project, portable restrooms will be available at the Ocracoke Day Use Area. Cape Hatteras National Seashore visitors will continue to have access to the parking lot and boardwalk.
