24 Hour Parade Countdown!

Press Release
24 Hour Parade Countdown!

What you need to know to participate in or watch the 4th of July Parade.

The parade is rain or shine. In case of extreme weather, please listen WOVV 90.1 FM (Ocracoke’s community radio), or check www.Visitocracokenc.com or Visit Ocracoke NC Facebook for updates/changes/cancellations.

Please be respectful, be safe, and remember that there will be people along the route. No shooting water or water balloons at parade participants as this is dangerous and anyone caught doing this by Hyde County Sheriff deputies will be fined.

Parade route starts at Ocracoke Oyster Company, left on Lighthouse Rd., right on Creek Rd., right on Silver Lake Dr., follow road around harbor to Parade’s end at NPS Parking Lot.

Keep in mind that there will be people along the route who may find distasteful language or displays to be, ummm... distasteful?

Be aware of flag etiquette: if your float includes a U.S. flag, it should be hoisted aloft and flying free. U.S. flag code prohibits using the flag as a costume or draping, or attaching anything to the flag.

The Hyde County Sheriff’s Department reminds us that open containers of alcoholic beverages are not allowed in a motor vehicle (including golf carts).

Line-up begins at 3pm. Please pick up a number at Ocracoke Gas Station. Robert Raborn will be outside the gas station on July 4th from 1:00pm – 3:30pm signing people up for the Ocracoke 4th of July parade and distributing parade numbers.
Line-up is on Hwy. 12 just beyond Ocracoke Oyster Co. Fall in behind emergency vehicles.
Parade begins at 4pm.

Judging location is at Ocracoke Lightship Realty on Lighthouse Road. Salute, bow, etc. Please allow time for judges to get a good look, and display your number.
Judges’ decisions are final.
Do not dismantle your floats in the NPS parking lot.
Prizes will be awarded from the stage at Books to be Red at 6:45pm.
Entries that have not registered will not be judged but are welcome to join our parade.
Thank you and if you have any questions, please contact 252-928-6711.

The Parade and most Independence Day Celebration events are sponsored by Ocracoke Civic and Business Association, with lots of help from the National Park Service, Hyde County Sheriff's Department, and a great group of volunteers. Following the rules helps everyone have a good time!

Have fun, be safe, and be respectful.
