Thursday, June 21st:

6:07am: Happy Solstice! At the Solstice, we have the longest day of sunlight for the whole year. The sun rises at its leftmost spot on the horizon and sets at its rightmost position. The summer solstice occurs when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Cancer, or 23.5° north latitude. The term "solstice" comes from the Latin word solstitium, meaning "the Sun stands still." This is because on this day, the Sun reaches its northern-most position as seen from the Earth. The Sun seems to stand still at the Tropic of Cancer and then reverses its direction. The days will start to get shorter on Friday, shrinking until the Winter Solstice in December. And today is the official First Day of Summer!
