Ocracoke's gearing up for Race Weekend!

And we have four -- yes, four -- fundraisers this week for local peeps John Simpson and Stevie Wilson. Read more about them below! 

Monday, April 23rd:

3pm: Occupancy Tax meeting @ Community Center. The OTB will reconvene to discuss how to grant money for fy 2018-19.

Tuesday, April 24th:

6:30pm: Open Jam @ Coyote Music Den, 6:30-9pm – sing, play, listen – all ages, all levels welcome (youth are encouraged to come at 6:30). No charge, but donations welcome.

Wednesday, April 25th: 

7pm: Word Play @ Coyote Music Den, 7-8:30pm. If you love words … bring something you wrote, read, heard and share, listen or tell a story. No charge, but donations welcome.

7pm: Island Trivia @ Gaffer's Just $2 to play! Proceeds will benefit local waterman Stevie Wilson, who recently suffered an accident and is recovering from a broken back and ribs. Show off how smart you are for a good cause, and help out an Ocracoke family in need.

Thursday, April 26th:

7pm: OVFD meeting @ Fire House. Stop by if you want to join the volunteer fire department!

Friday, March 27th:

11am: Fish Fry Fundraiser @ Native Seafood Proceeds will benefit Ocracoke resident John Simpson, who recently underwent four surgeries in just twenty-one days. Due to circulation issues caused by an infection, John had to have his leg amputated at the knee. He says he's "thankful to be alive – and it's humbling and appreciated the way this community is helping out." Come on out for fresh fried fish and all the trimmings starting at 11am until 2pm.  

5pm: Fundraiser @ Eduardo's Taco Stand Carnitas for a Cause! Proceeds will benefit local guys John Simpson and Stevie Wilson. 

8pm: Live Music @ Coyote Music Den! Martin, Marcy, and Lou "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" in the intimate listening roon of the Coyote Music Den in the Community Square. Every Friday night through November 26th. $15 adults/$7 kids under 12. Doors open at 7:30pm. Bring your own refreshments; soft drinks and water available for purchase. 

Saturday, April 28th:

8am: Ocracoke 5K/10K The start and finish line are in front of Gaffer's Sports Pub. Go, Runners!

10am: Ocracoke 1-Mile Family Fun Run, sponsored by Ocracoke Coffee Company. The family fun run begins in front of the Ocracoke Child Care building and the finish line is at the coffee shop. 

11am: Independent Bookstore Day Celebration @ Books to Be Red. Ocracoke's independent bookstore will be celebrating books and fun book accessories. Stop in between 11am and 4pm. Fun beverages, lots of nibbles, and sweet give-a-ways. Some of you lucky ducks will win a Harry Potter 20th anniversary item that you can only get that day in an independent bookstore. Are you one of the lucky ones?

1pm: Play Ball! Ocracoke's Marlins (7–9 year-old league) will host a baseball game @ Ocracoke Community Park! 

3pm: Play Ball! Ocracoke's Orioles (10-12 year-old league) will host a baseball game @ Ocracoke Community Park! 

6:30pm: Live music! Martin & Friends @ Ocracoke Oyster Company

Sunday, April 29th:

7am: Ocracoke Half-Marathon! 

11am: Fundraiser @ Jason's Restaurant. Jason's staff is holding a $10 lunch fundraiser starting at 11am while supplies last. They'll be serving chicken empanada plates, and baked ham dinners with mac & cheese, green beans, and rolls. Yum!

Services @ both churches: Ocracoke United Methodist (Sunday School 10am; service at 11am) and Ocracoke Assembly of God (Sunday School 10am, services at 11am and 6pm; also Wednesday night service at 7pm).
