Countdown to the Pirate Jamboree and Halloween Weekend!

So much going on this week on the sandbar, leading up to the Pirate Jamboree and Halloween weekend celebrations! 

The NEW Fall/Winter print edition of the Ocracoke Current is on the island! Find copies around the village, at the ferry terminals, or order some here

Monday, October 23rd:

4pm: Go Dolphins! Home varsity soccer game & Senior Night. Ocracoke Dolphins vs. Hatteras Hurricanes @ Ocracoke Community Park. Senior Night for Ocracoke School senior fall athletics will take place just before the home soccer game at about 3:50 pm. Come out to honor our senior athletes who participate in both soccer and cross county: Lupita Martinez, Iris Trejo, Mac Kalna and Darvin Contreras. Also, good luck to the Middle School volleyball Dolphins as they travel to Mattamuskeet! Fear the Pod!

Current Events Week of Oct. 23-29

Tuesday, October 24th:   

6:30pm: Open Mic @ Coyote Music Den, 6:30-9pm – sing, play, listen – all ages, all levels welcome – bring your instruments! No charge, but donations welcome.

Wednesday, October 25th:

6:30pm: Youth Choir Practice @ the Methodist Church. Open to all Ocracoke middle and high school students. 

7pm: Word Play @ Coyote Music Den, 7-8:30pm. If you love words … bring something you wrote, read, heard and share, listen or tell a story. No charge, but donations welcome.

Thursday, October 26th:

11am: NPS Public Input meeting @ Community Center. 

Friday, October 27th:

3pm: Freakin' Firkin Friday @ Zillie's. Kick off the pirate jamboree with the tappin' o' two firkins (ye olde kegs) from Heavy Seas Brewing Co.

3:30pm: Ocracoke School PTA Halloween Carnival: Concessions, Costume Parade, Carnival Games, Bouncy Houses, Haunted Howard Street Hayride, Kids' Movie, QUIZO, and more!

7pm: "Magic Scream" Haunted House @ Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar $5 admission to Ocracoke's favorite haunted house.

7:30pm: Live Music at the Coyote Music Den! The Coyote Music Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night through November. Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "signposts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

8pm: Halloween Dance Party with Raygun Ruby @ Howard's Pub! Dance like it's the 80's! Wear your costume!

Dajio Restaurant will close for the season after serving dinner today.

Additional Services at both churches: Ocracoke United Methodist (Sunday School 10am) and Ocracoke Assembly of God (Sunday School 10am, services at 11am and 7pm). 

8pm: All Alone & Lonely: An Evening of Haunting Appalachian Folklore @ Coyote Music Den. Two nights only: October 29th and 31st. This is a one-woman show starring local songstress Jenni Starr. Doors open at 7:30pm. Seating is limited. $10 admission.

Fall Hours

This is also the time of year when businesses go to fall hours. We'll keep you posted!  

Gaffer's Sports Pub: Fall Hours: Mon–Wed 11am til 12am; Thurs–Sun 8am til 2am. Open Thanksgiving; Closed Christmas Eve; Open Christmas Day at 5pm. Open year 'round. 

Ocracoke Seafood Company: NEW New Fall Hours: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 11am - 5pm. Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses.

The Flying Melon is now closed Sundays as well as Mondays. Fall hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 5–9pm.

Fall Hours for Village Thrift: Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–5pm.

Fall Hours for Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum: Monday–Friday, 10am–4pm; Saturday 10am–3pm; closed Sunday.

Jason's Restaurant Open Monday–Saturday, 11am to 2:30pm for lunch and 5pm to 8:30pm for dinner. Closed Sunday.

New Fall hours for Dajio Restaurant: Lunch-Dinner 11am-9pm, and Shrimp Hour 3-5pm seven days a week. Closed for Breakfast. Pizza hours remain the same: Tuesday-Sunday 5-10pm. Closed Monday. Will close for the season after dinner on October 29th. 

Howard’s Pub is open every day from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. serving their full menu.

Zillie's Island Pantry Fall Hours: Monday–Thursday, 1–7:30pm; Friday–Sunday, 1-8pm.
