Finding buried treasure at a nest excavation

Kick off the week with a turtle nest excavation....

.... and much more is happening this week, weather-permitting, of course. We're all keeping an eye on Jose and Maria.

Please take care at the beach – there's a high rip current risk because of Jose offshore, and there will also be high tides and ocean overwash. We'll get some wind early in the week from Jose.

Monday, September 18th:

9:30am: NPS Turtle Nest Excavation @ Lifeguard Beach All are welcome! During an excavation, the NPS biologists will dig up the nest, count eggshells, and collect un-hatched eggs for research. Live hatchlings are sometimes found during these excavations. While the biologists perform their examination of the nest, a park ranger will present a program on sea turtles and share what the biologists have found.

4pm: Home Middle School Volleyball game @ Ocracoke School gym. Go Dolphins!

6pm: Library Lego Club @ the Ocracoke Library! Building is fun!

Tuesday, September 19th:

8am: Ocracats Spay/Neuter Clinic is this week at the Fire Hall. If you have feral cats in your 'hood, let Melinda Sutton or Connie Leinbach know and they'll bring over a trap. Pet Day is on Thursday for islanders with pets that need fixin'.
