Our post-Labor Day weekend, pre-Irma plans....

The following events are, as always, subject to cancellation and postponement due to weather.....

Monday, September 4th:

Happy Labor Day!

Tuesday, September 5th:  

6pm: Board of Commissioners meeting @ Community Center. Click here to view agenda and packets. The meeting will take place via teleconferencing equipment in the Hyde County Government Center and Ocracoke Community Center. The public is invited to attend.

8pm: Live Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. This week's guest is Katy Mitchell of Ocracoke, NC. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Wednesday, September 6th:

5pm: Art Opening @ Down Creek Gallery 5–8pm, featuring local artist Mark Brown. Mark is from "old school eastern NC tobacco pickin' stock," and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2009 from of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is influenced by film, literature, music, and travel. "I Lived in a Benedictine monastery in Italy, published a book on Saint Benedict, and taught at Carteret Community College until contract was taken away because I had chosen to teach my students about a particular 'risky gay artist,'"he says. "I love cheese, Medieval Art and Blues music.” Mark's paintings explore many topics of interest such as old boats, oceanic themes, portraiture, and, of course, Blackbeard and Ocracoke Island. Live music and refreshments. Expose Yourself to Art!

6pm: Family Movie Night @ Ocracoke Library All are welcome to this free event; kids under 6 must be accompanied by grown-up. Movie TBA. 

8pm: Dingbatter's Guide to Ocracoke @ Deepwater Theater. This new comedy-skit show is the ultimate guide for Ocracoke visitors (and residents) of all ages! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for answers to all your burning questions. Admission. Doors open at 7:30pm.

Thursday, September 7th:

3pm: Live Music! Martin Garrish & Lou Castro @ Ocracoke Oyster Company! Come out to hear some amazing guitar playing, 3–6pm

6pm: Youth Soccer Meeting: Any adults interested in volunteering with a Saturday mornings youth soccer skills program should meet @ Community Park at 6pm. No soccer experience necessary.

6pm: Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Summer wine tastings take place every Thursday and Friday at 6pm, and pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.

8pm: Molasses Creek in concert every Thursday at 8pm @ Deepwater Theater. Doors open at 7:30pm. Reserve your tickets online at molassescreek.com

Friday, September 8th

Saturday, September 9th: 

8am: Multi-Family Yard Sale @ 100 British Cemetery Road.

12:00 Noon: Fiesta Latina Mexican Food Sale! 12–4pm or while supplies last @ the Community Square. Carnitas, salsa, beans, homemade tortillas, and aguas frescas! Muy delicioso! All proceeds benefit the Festival Latino de Ocracoke coming up on November 11th.

6:30pm: Live Music!  Martin & Lou @ Oyster Co. 6:30-9:30pm

9pm: Fiesta Latina Dance Party!! Live Music featuring Anti-Blindaje Sierreno and DJ Marlin, 9pm–Midnight @ the Community Center. Cash bar and soft drinks available all night!! All proceeds benefit the Festival Latino de Ocracoke coming up on November 11th.

Sunday, September 10th:  

10am: Sunday School starts! Calling all Children!! After a summer hiatus, Ocracoke United Methodist Church Sunday School will resume at 10 a.m. Sunday, September 10th. See you in the Sanctuary!!

Current Events Week of Sept. 4–10

11am: Services at both churches: Ocracoke United Methodist and Ocracoke Assembly of God. The Assembly of God also has a 7pm service.

Fall Hours

This is also the time of year when businesses go to fall hours. We'll keep you posted!  

Starting on Labor Day, Jason's Restaurantis closed on Sundays and is doing split shifts open 11am to 2:30pm for lunch and 5pm to 8:30pm for dinner.

New Fall hours for Dajio: Lunch-Dinner 11am-9pm, and Shrimp Hour 3-5pm seven days a week. Closed for Breakfast. Pizza hours remain the same: Tuesday-Sunday 5-10pm. Closed Monday.

Coming Soon!  

September 19th-21st: Ocracats is having their annual Trap/Neuter/Release feral kitty fall clinic with Dr Howard Johnson from Boone and some other visiting vets including Ocracoke's own Dr Laura Trent. Ocracats needs volunteers to help on any of those days. If you plan to be on the island and want to get involved, please email ocracats@gmail.com. Jobs include selling t-shirts, cleaning traps, filling in forms, running errands, etc.
