Summer winds down, weather winds up, and stuff is still going on...

Hunker down for a few days of wind and rain and then – go to the beach! (This is the last week of the season that lifeguards will be on duty.) 

Monday, August 28th:

7:55am: First Day of School! Ocracoke kids and teachers head back today! Have a great school year, y'all!

Afternoon/Evening: A bit o' nasty weather! We'll kick off the school year with a little tropical storm....

8pm: LAST CHANCE TONIGHT! Pirate Show at Deepwater Theater! Brave the blustery winds and join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for a fun, family-friendly analysis of the infamous character Blackbeard the Pirate. 7:30pm; doors open at 7. Read more about "Blackbeard: A Historical, Hysterical Account" here. (This is the final show of the season – next year, this show will be replaced on Monday nights by the musical play "A Tale of Blackbeard.")

Tuesday, August 29th:  

7pm: Live Music! Bryan Mayer @ Ocracoke Oyster Co.

8pm: Live Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. This week's guest is Aaron Caswell of Ocracoke, NC. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Wednesday, August 30th:

5pm: Art Opening @ Down Creek Gallery 5–8pm, featuring local artist Kitty Martin Mitchell. Kitty's work is greatly inspired by her father Charles R. Martin, who was a photographer. Kitty explores multiple mediums: oils, graphite, and acrylic paint, utilizing many themes within her paintings that bring attention to world events. Kitty is also Ocracoke School's art teacher for grades Pre-K through 12. She takes great pleasure and pride in “watching young artists bloom.” Kitty believes that teaching has allowed her to stay in touch with the creative playfulness of children. Musical guest is Rob King; refreshments will be served. Expose Yourself to Art!

7pm: Live Music! Barefoot Wade @ Dajio, 7–10pm; Bryan Mayer @ Oyster Co.

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote: Just We Two" (just Marcy and Lou!) at 8pm every Wednesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

8pm: Dingbatter's Guide to Ocracoke @ Deepwater Theater. This new comedy-skit show is the ultimate guide for Ocracoke visitors (and residents) of all ages! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for answers to all your burning questions. Admission. Doors open at 7:30pm.

9pm: Sing out! It's Karaoke Night @ Ocracoke Oyster Co.!

Thursday, August 31st:

3pm: Live Music! Martin Garrish & Lou Castro @ Ocracoke Oyster Company! Come out to hear some amazing guitar playing, 3–6pm

6pm: Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Summer wine tastings take place every Thursday and Friday at 6pm, and pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.

7pm: Live Music! Raygun Ruby, your favorite retro-80's band, plays 7-10pm @ Dajio! 

8pm: Molasses Creek in concert every Thursday at 8pm @ Deepwater Theater. Doors open at 7:30pm. Reserve your tickets online at molassescreek.com

Friday, September 1st

8am: Fundraiser @ Eduardo's Taco Stand for Megan Aldridge Delicious Carnitas and 3 different Flavors of Aguas Frescas as Watermelon, Basil with Pineapple, and Horchata fresh water. Starts at 8am until sold out. Eduardo says, "Today and always somebody will need your help. Friday will be the day for our friend, Megan Aldridge."

8pm: Live Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night through November. Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "sign posts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Saturday, September 2nd: 

1pm: Porch Talk @ Ops Museum: "Writing Your Book" Join Ocracoke author Ann Ehringhaus and learn a bit about writing and publishing your book. In the last four years Ann has completed two book projects. One is Ten Thousand Breakfasts (2013) about more than thirty years in the bed and breakfast business on Ocracoke, and the second is Send Me the Wind (2016), a collaboration between her photography and poems by Ed Wanamaker, Cape Cod poet. Ann will share about the publishing experiences, answer questions, and sign any books. Join us for some interesting moments! Rain or Shine

7pm: Live Music! Kate McNally @ Dajio 7–10pm; Barry Wells @ Oyster Co. 7–10pm

10pm: More live music! The Mumz begin at 10pm at the Oyster co. for late-night fun!

Sunday, September 3rd:  

11am: Services at both churches: Ocracoke United Methodist and Ocracoke Assembly of God. The Assembly of God also has a 7pm service.

2pm: ARRGH! It's time for ye olde Auditions for A Tale of Blackbeard! Stop by Deepwater Theater anytime between 2pm-6pm, and try out for the 2018 production of Ocracoke's favorite musical!

7pm: Live Music! Barefoot Wade @ Dajio, 7–10pm.
