Weather Heading Our Way
While were worried about and watching the disaster happening in Texas, #10 snuck up on us.
The National Hurricane Center has initiated advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone 10, located off the SE U.S. coast. Forecasted to become TS Irma and affect SC & NC. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from South Santee River, South Carolina, to Duck, North Carolina.
It looks like Ocracoke can expect winds of 30–40 mph, plus 4–6 inches of rain, starting Monday afternoon, just in time to cap off the first day of school. (Welcome to island living, new teachers!)
The NC Ferry Division put out this notice: "We are keeping an eye on this system now centered off the coast of Georgia working its way up the coast. While at this time it is not expected to be a major storm, the forecast does call for increasing winds and heavy rain along the NC Coast from Monday afternoon into Wednesday. If so, there may be some interruptions of ferry service during those days. If you're plans through Wednesday include a ferry ride, please keep track of our Twitter feed at NCDOT_Ferry for instant updates on any delays or cancellations. We'll keep you posted!"
The Ocracoke Current will also keep you posted!
Meanwhile, our thoughts keep going out to friends, family, and everyone else in Harvey's path. Ocracoke peeps have already been discussing how we can help. We'll keep you posted on that, too.
