Summer's in full swing on the island!

The National Park Service hosts interpretive programs on Ocracoke every week. Find that schedule here

Wonderful NPS volunteers and rangers open the Ocracoke Lighthouse a couple of times a week. (You can go in, but not up!) Stop by the NPS Visitor Center for specific times or check the Current's Facebook page.

Monday, June 5th:

6pm: Hyde County Board of Commissioners meeting @ Community Center. The agenda and packets are hereThe meeting will take place in the Ocracoke Community Center using electronic conferencing equipment. The public is invited to attend.

8pm: Pirate Show at Deepwater Theater! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for a fun, family-friendly analysis of the infamous character Blackbeard the Pirate. 7:30pm; doors open at 7. Read more about "Blackbeard: A Historical, Hysterical Account" here.

Tuesday, June 6th: 

1pm: Kids Create-a-Craft "Hats & Neighbors" Come to the OPS Museum with your children for a fun craft afternoon! 

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. This week's guest is Rob Sharer of Ocrafolk Festival favorite "Craicdown." More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Wednesday, June 7th:

10am: Outdoor Classroom summer programs are offered every Wednesday at 10am. All programs are free, last approximately 90 minutes, are outdoors, and taught by Elizabeth Hanrahan, a certified wildlife educator. All classes are located at NCCAT (North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching) located in the old Coast Guard station on the harbor. This week's class is "How to Read an NC Beach."

1pm: Free Guided Museum Tour at Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum. See all our exhibits and learn more about Ocracoke and its history. 

7pm: Live Music! Barefoot Wade @ Dajio and Bryan Mayer @ Oyster Co., both 7–10pm

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote: Just We Two" (just Marcy and Lou!) at 8pm every Wednesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

8pm: Dingbatter's Guide to Ocracoke @ Deepwater Theater. This new comedy-skit show is the ultimate guide for Ocracoke visitors (and residents) of all ages! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for answers to all your burning questions. Admission. Doors open at 7:30pm.

10pm: Sing out! It's Karaoke Night @ Ocracoke Oyster Co.!

10:30am: OPS Porch Talk @ OPS Museum. Come hear stories from Donald Davis's Storytelling Workshop. Porch Talks are free, informal, and fun!

3pm: Live Music! Martin Garrish & Lou Castro @ Ocracoke Oyster Company! Come out to hear some amazing guitar playing, 3–6pm

6pm: Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Summer wine tastings take place every Thursday and Friday at 6pm, and pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.

7pm: Live music! Raygun Ruby, your favorite retro-80's band, plays 7-10pm @ Dajio!

School's Out for Summer! Ocracoke School students have their last (half) day of the year today.

1pm: Porch Talk and Book Signing @ OPS Museum. Mary Ellen Riddle, author of "Outer Banks Shipwrecks." Porch Talks are free, informal, and fun!

8pm: Live Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night through November. Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "sign posts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at www.coyotemusic.net
