Monday, May 22nd:

3pm–7pm: Scholastic Book Fair @ Ocracoke Library. The Scholastic Book Fair is the major fundraiser for the Ocracoke School library.

Tuesday, May 23rd: 

1pm: Memorial Service for Clyde Austin at 1pm at Ocracoke United Methodist Church. Food for the family may be brought to the Rec Hall after 11am.

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. This week kicks off the 2017 with Kate McNally! More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Wednesday, May 24th:

10am: Outdoor Classroom summer programs are offered every Wednesday at 10am. All programs are free, last approximately 90 minutes, are outdoors, and taught by Elizabeth Hanrahan, a certified wildlife educator. All classes are located at NCCAT (North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching) located in the old Coast Guard station on the harbor. This week's class is "How to Read an NC Beach."

5pm: Athletic Awards Ceremony @ Ocracoke School. All are welcome to cheer the accomplishments of the middle school and high school Dolphins.

7pm: Trivia! It's the last Trivia Night of the season! Only $2 to play and all proceeds will benefit Teresa O'Neal as she undergoes cancer treatment. Trivia is hosted by Gaffers Sports Pub. Come out and show off how smart you are!

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote: Just We Two" (just Marcy and Lou!) at 8pm every Wednesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

8:30pm: Sing out! It's Karaoke Night @ Ocracoke Oyster Co.!

Thursday, May 25th:

3pm: Live Music! Martin Garrish & Lou Castro @ Ocracoke Oyster Company! Come out to hear some amazing guitar playing, 3–6pm

6pm: Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Summer wine tastings take place every Thursday and Friday at 6pm, and pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.

7pm: Live music! Raygun Ruby, your favorite retro-80's band, plays 7-10pm @ Dajio!

Friday, May 26th:

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night through November. Beloved island native Martin Garrish shares songs – "sign posts of life" – and enchanting stories about growing up on Ocracoke. $15 for adults/$7 for kids under 12. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Saturday, May 27th:

8am–6pm: All-day Baseball @ Ocracoke Community Park. Ocracoke is hosting the first Ocracoke Island Invitational for USSSA Baseball. There are seven teams and they'll all play both days. Ocracoke's own Rays are in the line-up! 

9am: Maker's Market on Silver Lake: 9am–4pm, Local art and community offerings on the Wahab House lawn; parking @ NPS lot.

10am: Springer's Point Hike with Ocracoke historian Philip Howard. Learn Ocracoke history and lore on this walk with the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust and Philip. Read about last year's hike here.

10am–2pm: Ocracoke Kids Put on a Show! The Ocracoke School of Performing Arts will host their 2nd annual Spring Showcase, with performances from 10:30am-1:30pm. The hub of activity is at 120 Howard Street, where there will be games, bubbles, bake sale, and more! Performances will move from the Community Square (aboard and Wilma Lee and inside Coyote Den), Howard Street, and Live Oak Stage at Books to Be Red. A more detailed schedule will be posted later in the week. All are welcome to see the kids shine!

4:00pm–Midnight: 12th Annual OVFD Firemen's Ball: Schedule of Events: 4:00-6:30 Silent Auction; 5:00-6:30 Pig Pickin' (or until food runs out, which it always does) Plates are $12, and include a drink. Inside, donations accepted for cold beer generously donated by City Beverage Co. and Fortnight Brewery and Pub; 7:00 Live Auction; 8:30 Live Music with The Dune Dogs & The Ocracoke Rockers (Donations for the dance accepted at the door) Please note: Only event sponsors receive tickets for the pig pickin' and dance; first come, first served for everyone else!

7pm: Live Music! Kate McNally @ Dajio, 7–10pm.

Recover.... Ocracoke is full-on in the summer season now, and we won't rest until Labor Day!

Looking ahead....

There will be a Special Meeting open to the public to discuss the proposed occupancy tax rate, it is scheduled for 5pm on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Ocracoke Community Center.

May 31st: Art Opening @ Down Creek Gallery for Ocracoke Current's own Crystal Canterbury. Come out and see new photographs by our favorite photographer! 5–8pm, with refreshment!

June 2–4: Ocrafolk Festival: Music, storytelling, art, food, dancing, fun!
