Ocracoke Community Park and Youth Center hosts first of four level competitions.

A Major League Baseball PITCH HIT & RUN competition was held on Ocracoke Saturday, April 1, 2017.

The competition is a national skills program to provide boys and girls ages 7 – 14 the opportunity, free of charge, to showcase their pitching, hitting, and running abilities. Youngsters may advance through four levels of competition; Locals, Sectionals, Team Championships and National Finals which are held during the MLB all Star Week. The event is intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the “FUN” element in one of two divisions – baseball or softball. Once a participant has competed in a division he/she must remain in that division for all subsequent levels of the competition and may not switch divisions. The girls who participated at the Ocracoke event submitted requests to participate in the baseball division, pairing them with their male counterparts, and one of the girls took home honors.

Awards are given for individual events and for overall winners. In the 7/8 age group Mau Guerrero won the individual hitting/running categories and tied with Jonah Daniels for the pitching event. Finn Kattenburg won the individual running award. Daymon Esham took home the individual hitting certificate. Jacob Daniels won the individual pitching as well as the overall certificate for that age group.

The 11/12 age group honors went to Dirk Ely who took home certificates for pitching, hitting and the overall award for his age group. Alan Doshier won individual pitching and the overall certificate for 13/14 age groups, with Ethan O’Neal taking home hitting honors, and Dylan Esham winning for individual running.

Congrats to Pitch, Hit, Run Winners

Special mentions go out to the three girls who participated. Elsie Kattenburg scored second in her age group for individual running. Dibanhi Santiago scored third in the running event for the largest age group of 9/10 which included twelve other boys (she was the only girl in that group). Maren Donlon won the individual running award for her age group (11/12).

Congratulations to all the participants and thanks to all the parents and varsity players who helped facilitate the event.
