Notice to Ocracoke Homeowners

Press Release

All properties that received significant flood damage from Matthew are eligible for elevation assistance.

As a result of the significant flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew on Ocracoke Island, Hyde County Office of Planning is now accepting applications for the elevation and reconstruction of homes that have experienced significant flood damage from the storm. Elevating your home can not only protect your home against future flooding but can lower your future flood insurance premiums.

Hyde County Office of Planning will submit these applications to the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for funding.  The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) assists states and local communities in implementing long-term mitigation measures following a Presidential Disaster Declaration.

A first round of applications have been received and will be submitted. Our office is now reaching out for a second round in an effort to reach homeowners and assist in mitigating against future damage. To apply or ask questions please contact Rosemary Johnson at 252-926-4178 or rjohnson@hydecountync.gov The second round of applications are due by April 15, 2017. Elevating your home can not only protect your home against future flooding but can lower your future flood insurance premiums.
