Enjoy your last week of July!

The Ocracoke Friends of the Library Used Book Sale is ongoing through the month of July. Stop by during the regular library hours: Weekdays 3–7pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm.

Figs are getting ripe, and the Ocracoke Fig Fest is coming up August 12th-13th!

The National Park Service hosts interpretive programs on Ocracoke every week. Find that schedule hereWonderful NPS volunteers and rangers open the Lighthouse a couple of times a week. (You can go in, but not up!) Stop by the NPS Visitor Center for specific times or check the Current's Facebook page.

Monday, July 25th: 

1pm: Mondays at the OPS Museum means a Museum Tour at 1pm with an island resident with insider knowledge. Today, it's Julie Howard!

7:30pm: Pirate Show at Deepwater Theater! Join Desiree Ricker, David Tweedie, Gary Mitchell, and Peyton Piquard for a fun, family-friendly analysis of the infamous character Blackbeard the Pirate. 7:30pm; doors open at 7. Read more about "Blackbeard: A Historical, Hysterical Account" here.

Tuesday, July 26th:

1pm: Porch Talk at the OPS Museum. "Being an Outer Banker" with Elvin Hooper. Porch Talks are free, informal, and informative!

6pm: Special Pop-Up Wine Dinner at 6pm the Berkley Manor Hosted by Zillie's Island Pantry; reservations required. Find out more about this delicious dining opportunity here

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote Plus One" at 8pm every Tuesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

Wednesday, July 27th:

10am: Outdoor Classroom summer programs are offered every Wednesday at 10am. All programs are free, last approximately 90 minutes, are outdoors, and taught by Elizabeth Hanrahan, a certified wildlife educator. This week, you can learn about "How to Read an NC Beach" at the Outdoor Classroom at NCCAT.

10am: Dockside Talk aboard the Skipjack Wilma Lee at the Community Store docks. Dockside Talks are free and sponsored by Ocracoke Alive. On Wednesdays, Capt. Rob and Fiddlin' Dave present Pirate Tales and Fiddle Tunes. This program is especially fun for families.

11am: The NC Aquarium comes to the Library! All are welcome to the free, fun program with LIVE animals from the NC Aquarium as part of the Summer Reading Program.

1pm: Just for Kids program at OPS at 1pm. This week, make a sailboat! All are welcome! A $5 donation for materials is appreciated.

2pm: Free Beer at Zillie's! Boulevard Brewing in Kansas City (the largest specialty brewer in the midwest) will be offering free samples of their Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, their Tropical Pale Ale and their Tell-Tale-Tart from 2pm til 5pm. Swing on by for a taste!!

3pm–8pm: Ocracoke Makers Market Stop by the Historic Wahab House lawn on Silver Lake between 3-8pm for the open air market with art, crafts, handmade items, food, and more! 

5pm: Art Opening for Barbara Adams at Down Creek Gallery. Expose Yourself to Art! Featured artist Barbara Adams will be showing her newest paintings portraying Ocracoke and the natural elements of the Outer Banks and surrounding areas from 5pm-8pm. All are welcome! Music provided by April Trueblood and Kim France; there'll be refreshments, too!

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host "Coyote" (just Marcy and Lou!) at 8pm every Wednesday night. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

8pm: The weekly Ocrafolk Opry is tonight! Live music and storytelling by a variety of local talent. Shows begin at 8pm at Deepwater Theater. More info here.

9pm: You can sing, too! Karaoke starts at 9pm at Ocracoke Oyster Company.

Thursday, July 28th:

9am: Beach Clean-Up! As the National Park Service continues to celebrate its centennial, Cape Hatteras National Seashore is hosting a beach cleanup on Ocracoke. The public is invited to participate July 28 from 9–11am at Ocracoke's Lifeguarded beach. Meet at the parking lot. Bring leather gloves, water, snacks, and sunscreen. Wear appropriate clothing, including closed-toe shoes and hats. Trash bags will be provided. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them.

3pm: Live Music! Martin & Lou at the Ocracoke Oyster Company, 3–6pm. Great tunes in the afternoon! 

6pm: Wine tasting at Zillie's Island Pantry! Summer wine tastings take place every Thursday and Friday at 6pm, and pair five great wines with delicious hors d'oeuvres from the pantry. Space is limited, so make a reservation, and sign up at zillies.com.

6:30pm: Coloring Night at Books to Be Red! Come out to color your stress away! 6:30–8:30pm. Books to Be Red provides coloring pages, crayons and markers, and refreshments, and it's FREE! Not sure what Coloring Night is? Read this story and find out!

8pm: Music at the Coyote Den! The Coyote Den is in the Community Square, and will host Martin Garrish and Friends "Playing Your Ocracoke Memories" every Friday night from March 25th – November 18th. More info at www.coyotemusic.net

MIDNIGHT! Stop by Books to Be Red for your copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! Bookstore owner Leslie Lanier says you might even get to meet the Books to Be Red ghost! 

Sunday, July 31st:

5pm: Pick-up softball at Ocracoke Community Park, $2 per player helps support the ballfield!

6pm: Master Magic! Art show at the Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar featuring works by longtime Ocracoke visitor Dave Benn. 

7pm: Martin and Friends play every Sunday night at Ocracoke Oyster Co, starting at 7pm.
