Makers' Market to Debut June 20

Farmers, crafters, and food vendors will sell their wares on the Wahab House lawn.

Makers' Market to Debut June 20

The Makers' Market events (every Monday, 3–7pm, through the summer and fall, except for July 4th – that week it will be on Tuesday, July 5th) are the brainchild of Kim Meacham and the Open Source Ocracoke group that she started in the winter of 2015. Open Source Ocracoke's mission to help local and regional artists and crafters cooperate and help each other grow and flourish.

"The Makers' Market is a grass-rooted, volunteer, get-something-started-and-not-compete-with-what-already-exists-but-support-these-businesses-and-the-whole-community-kind-of-event!" sys Kim. "The Big Dream is a venue for guests to 'sample' Ocracoke culture & business flavor on Monday nights to have excitement and patronage for the week they are here." Kim also plans for Ocracoke's non-profits to take turns having a presence at the Market, promoting their organization and selling their merchandise.

The event is sponsored by Open Source Ocracoke, as well as Coastal Farmers Cooperative and Blackbeard's Lodge, whose owners also own the historic Wahab House. The Wahab House lawn is a popular wedding venue and also home to the Brigands' Bazaar during Blackbeard's Pirate Jamboree. It's a beautiful spot to set up a little market!

So pretty!
So pretty!

The first Market will be small, but Kim expects the events to grow with more participation from vendors. On the 20th, you can expect to find fresh, organic produce from farmers of Hyde & Currituck counties, art and crafts, and locally-made take-away food.

You can bet Kim's yummy Milk Street Soap will be there, too!
