11th Annual Firemen's Ball

Press Release
11th Annual Firemen's Ball
Celebrate Memorial Day weekend with the pig pickin', auction, and dance to benefit Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Drepartment!
The Firemen’s Ball started years ago when a couple of talented musicians who love Ocracoke gathered to play music and raise some money for a good cause. Since then, the original group (The Dune Dogs) out of Raleigh, NC, with the help of local band The Ocracoke Rockers, have come together every year to make this fundraiser a huge success. Not only is it a good time, it is an important fundraiser for the fire department.

On Saturday, May 28th of Memorial Day weekend this year, we will be holding our eleventh annual Ocracoke Volunteer Firemen’s Ball at the community center on Ocracoke Island! Thanks to the continued support of sponsors, donors and volunteers, last year’s ball was again very successful. Together we raised over $63,000 for the Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund!  Even though the new building has been completed, we still need your help more than ever. The Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department’s main source of funding for operating expenses such as mortgage, utilities, equipment, insurance, etc. is from fundraising efforts, and the Firemen’s Ball is the largest event of the year for this need. Ocracoke Island is in a rare situation due to the fact that we have no guaranteed source of income support (such as a fire tax) for our Volunteer Fire Department.

This year’s Firemen’s Ball will be much the same as in previous years… we will start off the day with a pig pickin’ (last year we served over 600 people!), followed by a silent and a live auction, finishing off with a musical extravaganza involving three great local favorites providing live music; The Ocracoke Rockers, The Aaron Caswell Band, and The Dune Dogs.

For those of you who have helped in the past, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you from the Ocracoke Fire Protection Association and all those involved with the Firemen’s Ball. We continue to be humbled by the generosity of so many local businesses and individuals. Please consider a sponsorship this year – it’s a wonderful opportunity to have your business or family name associated as a part of this great cause, while supporting the local community. In addition to sponsorship opportunities, please consider donating goods or services for the live and silent auctions – and we always make sure that you or your business is well recognized by having your name, business card and information on the donated product.
