Vermonter Scott Paulson of Island Time Steel Drums is no stranger to Ocracoke. He and his friend Barbara Smith came to the Island to share a house with friends back in 2002. At the end of that week they were more than friends. They have been back to Ocracoke at least once a year and sometimes twice ever since. In 2012 while having snacks on the beach, Scott served up a ring. Two years later on that same beach surrounded by friends from home and as many from Ocracoke, they tied the knot.

The connection to the island runs deeper than just their relationship though, as Scott and Barbara are both freelance musicians and teachers. Regular jam sessions at their vacation rental have included the likes of Marcy and Lou from Coyote, all of Molasses Creek, Jim Wynn, Pat Garber and many others. Scott and Barb have also volunteered several times to play for the Thanksgiving Weekend Ocrafolk Fundraiser Show, which they did again this past year.
Most notably perhaps is that fact that they have been Arts Week Artists at the school bringing their very unique Caribbean Steel Drums to town and working with the entire school both in 2010 and 2015.

Wanting to expand on that this year Scott is coming down early and is arranging to work with the after school program as well as the Arts Partnership Program. He is especially excited to be able to offer, in association with Ocracoke Alive, a Community Steel Band Class.
