Ocracoke Island mandatory evacuation to be lifted; restrictions apply. 

Hyde County officials have decided to lift the mandatory evacuation for Ocracoke Island as of 5:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015. Access to Ocracoke will continue to be restricted to emergency personnel, utilities, vendors, residents, and non-resident property owners only. Access to Ocracoke Island for visitors is prohibited until further notice.

Starting tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 the NC Ferry Division will resume the regular ferry schedule for routes servicing Ocracoke. 

Local flooding on roads is still an issue and drivers should exercise extreme caution. 

The emergency general population shelter in Rocky Mount will close at 5:00 p.m. today, October 2, 2015.
