Super Heroes in training!
Super Heroes in training!
The little library on Ocracoke Island is hopping these days!

The Summer Reading Program is going strong with the theme "Every Hero Has a Story."

The children who are participating have been making pieces of a super hero costume each week. So far they have made masks, wrist cuffs, and shields. They will also create capes! At the end of July the library will have a huge celebration with a super hero obstacle course. This program is for children grades K-5. Visitors are welcome!

In June we had a visit from storyteller Mark Daniel and it was so much fun! Mark has a pet rabbit who surprised us all by popping out of a bucket! It was an amazing show as always. Rhana Paris from the NC Aquarium came down and brought a small alligator for the kids to touch and learn about. She educated about 80 children and parents on environmental issues and conservation.

A very exciting addition to the library this summer has been our new audio visual equipment! We have a 3D DVD player, projector, speakers and a HUGE screen. We have been showing movies this summer for all ages. The public is welcome to come watch these movies for free! We are doing family movies on Wednesday nights and Young Adult movies on Friday nights, both at 6 pm.

Also during the month of July is our ongoing used book sale. The public is invited to browse the book selection during our public hours, M-F 3-7pm (8pm on Wednesdays) and 9am-1pm on Saturday. The profits from the sale go to the Ocracoke Friends of the Library group, which supports so many of the library's projects.

The library offers free wi-fi, internet connected desktops, printers and copiers as well as a fax machine. We have a periodical room, rocking chairs on the porch and an interesting North Carolina room which holds a wealth of Ocracoke history for the history buffs out there.

If you do not possess a library card for Ocracoke or any of the BHM libraries (Beaufort, Hyde or Martin counties) we have guest books available.
