Current Events Week of 6/15/15

Summer Reading Program Kickoff! 6:30pm at the Linbrary. Come register, check out some great books, and have some fun! Don't worry, if you miss the kick off, you can still register during regular library hours M-F 3-7pm (8pm on Wednesday) and 9am-1pm on Saturday. Tuesday, June 16:

The Lighthouse opens today! NPS volunteers will begin opening the lighthouse today, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 1 – 3pm. You know you want to see inside! Find out more here.

Library Book Club meets at 7pm at the library. Discussion will be about Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. There's still time to read it – copies are available at the library!

Current Events Week of 6/15/15

Coyote Plus One howls again! Their special guest this week is Jim Wynn. The show starts at 8pm at the Community Center, and admission is $15 (free for kids under 12.) Not on Ocracoke? Watch the show live on the web at concertwindow.com/coyote (cost = $1). Isn't technology amazing?

Wednesday, June 17:

The Ocracoke Community Park Committee open house in the Community Center at 7pm. Come out to hear updates about the park project and give your input for future activities at the park. Thursday, June 18:

Special Book Reading at 4:30pm at Books to Be Red: Sands Hetherington will be reading from his newest children's book. GO SKY HIGH is the third in the Night Buddies series. Bring your children for an afternoon of fun!

Current Events Week of 6/15/15

Help support Ocracoke's community radio station, better known as WOVV 90.1 FM, by coming out to watch a bunch of women compete in a test of skill, strength, and costumery! Better yet, if you're of the female persuasion, come out and compete! It's the annual Women's Arm Wrestling Tournament at 7pm at the Beachcomber Campground! Prizes! Costumes! Admission $10. More fun than you can imagine – all for a great cause! (Get yourself excited by reading about last year's contest!)

Friday, June 19:

Mark Daniel, one of the foremost summer reading performers in the United States, will perform some Magical Storytelling (with help from Steggy the Stegasaurus and Wally the Bunny) at 3pm in the Ocracoke School Gym. He comes every year and you love him!! Come see Mark Daniels tell stories as part of the Summer Reading Program!

Current Events Week of 6/15/15

Ocracoke Friends of the Library will hold their annual Used Book Sale fundraiser on Thursday, July 2nd. They are now accepting donations used children’s and adult hardcover and paperback books to add to the book sale. Please drop them off during regular library hours: Monday – Friday, 3pm – 7pm (On Wednesdays, the library’s open an extra hour until 8pm!) and Saturday, 9am – 1pm. Support your local library and clean off your bookshelves at the same time!

Ocracoke Preservation Society offers a Porch Talk program every Tuesday and Thursday at 1pm, and a special Kids' Program with a talk and craft every Wednesday at 1pm. There are also regularly-scheduled Museum Tours. Call 252-928-7375 for more information or click here. 

The Ocracoke Foundation sponsors weekly Outdoor Classroom Programs every Wednesday at 10am at NCCAT. More info here
