Join the Coastal Voices Team!

Interested in community history and stories? Then become a Coastal Voices volunteer!

Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities:

  • Interviewing folks in your community

  • Taking photos

  • Creating radio programs

  • Audio editing

  • Transcribing interviews

  • Creating slideshows

  • Finding photos and images

  • Creating playlists or podcasts

  • Managing social media


Becoming a CV volunteer is easy!  

The only qualification is your interest in documenting the stories of Hatteras Island, Ocracoke and Down East.  Coastal Voices will provide training in the fundamentals of oral history interviewing and audio editing. 

Did you know that Coastal Voices is working on a Smithsonian Hometown Teams project that will feature surfing, fishing tournaments, high school and community athletics, and marching bands? The exhibit will open at Core Sound Museum and Heritage Center July 25 and slideshows with audio will be posted Coastal Voices is an oral history project about the maritime heritage of the Outer Banks and Down East region of coastal North Carolina.
