Like live music and enjoy a community event? Come out to the Community Center Board's public meeting at 5pm (at the Community Center, of course) to hear about possible, immediate improvements to the Center's acoustical problems. The Community Center Board is an advisory board to the county commissioners; Hyde County owns the Ocracoke Community Center. The Board would like to solicit public comment about the acoustics issues that developed due to the building's renovations last fall.

If you're the quiet type, perhaps the Ocracoke Library Knitting Club is the place for you. It's also at 5pm on Monday – at the library, of course. Beginners welcome! Come and learn!

Tuesday, March 31st:

Another deadline! Letters requesting funds from Occupancy Tax are due today. The OT board wants 5 hard copies of each request, hand delivered to the Ocracoke Library before 7pm on Tuesday. The OT board will meet On Tuesday, April 7th, at 7pm at the Community Center.

Wednesday, April 1st:

Don't be fooled! It's really true! Ocracoke Coffee Company and the Flying Melon Cafe both open for the season today! Smoothies and lattes – yay! It's true what you've heard about the Flying Melon…. no brunch this year, but dinner will be fantastic as always.

Thursday, April 2nd:

Mmmmm, pad thai, how I've missed you. Thankfully, my longings will soon be fulfilled: Thai Moon opens today.

Maundy Thursday service at the Ocracoke United Methodist Church, 7pm.

The Ocracoke Volunteer Fire Department will hold their every-other-Thursday meeting at the Fire Hall at 7pm. They can always use new members! You can also stop by and get a way-cool OVFD t-shirt or order your reflective house number signs (so OVFD and Ocracoke EMS can find you!)

Leonard Meeker April 4, 1916 - November 29, 2014
Leonard Meeker April 4, 1916 - November 29, 2014

Saturday is also the Celebration of Life for Leonard Meeker. Ocracoke friends are invited to all the Saturday events organized by Leonard's family including a morning run to the beach (9am), lunch at Howard's Pub (Noon-2pm), scattering of ashes from flotilla of boats (2:30-3:30), followed by a live oak tree planting (3:30-4), celebration of live performances and remembrances (4-6pm), and dinner and dancing (6-9pm) all at the Meekers' house on Windmill Point.

Later that evening, come out to the Community Center for a Dance with the Ocracoke Rockers! Teresa and Albert will be working the door, shaking you down for donations for Ocracoke Child Care as you go into shake a leg. There’ll be beer and tasty treats, too – for a donation, of course. The Rockers will rock the house from 7-11pm.

Sunday, April 5th: Happy Easter! If you're the morning type, you'll love the Sunrise Service at the Lifeguard Beach at 7am. The annual Easter Sunrise Service is a joint venture between the Ocracoke United Methodist Church and the Ocracoke Assembly of God. Music will be provided by Aaron Caswell and Jubal Creech. It's a moving service and a lovely time to be on the beach (or so they tell me.)

Current Events Week of 3/30/15

If you like to sleep in, both churches have regular Easter services at 11am.
