Road may close again tonight at high tide.

The N.C. Department of Transportation has reopened N.C. 12 from the Bonner Bridge, south to Rodanthe. The department closed the road earlier this morning due to deep water on N.C. 12 at several locations on Pea Island from just south of the Bonner Bridge, down to Mirlo Beach.

NCDOT has reopened the road and crews will monitor conditions this evening and overnight as the evening high tide approaches. Northeast winds from a Nor’easter that moved through the area this weekend continues to cause a higher than usual high tide. Should conditions be deemed too dangerous for travel at the evening high tide, around 8:30 p.m., NCDOT crews will coordinate with local law enforcement to temporarily close down the road again until water levels recede.
