Saturday is TYCBD!

Ocracoke's bookstore, Books to Be Red, will be celebrating this national event along with over 700 other independent bookstores around the country. 

The fun starts at 9:30am at Books to Be Red with storytime (in English and Spanish!). It's always fun with Ms. Leslie at the bookstore! She'll even have snacks and surprises. Bring your young'uns and join the party! All are welcome!

On Saturday afternoon, from 12:30 – 3pm, Books to Be Red will host a book signing with local author Pat Garber. Pat will be signing copies of her latest book, Paws and Tails, which is also her first novel. 

Pat started writing this story over ten years ago, then put it down, she says, "because I didn't know where it was going."  Five years later, she picked it up again and "It wrote itself – the dog and cat wrote it."

Paws and Tails is narrated by a boat-dwelling cat (Kali) and an island-roaming dog (Harvey), whose fates become entwined when Kali's human sails into Ocracoke and meets Harvey's human.

It's not a children's book, but is appropriate for young adults. "It's a PG love story," Pat said. 

This is her first book since Heart Like a River. Pat is also the author of Ocracoke Wild and Ocracoke Odyssey, and a picture book about the Ocracoke wild ponies, Little Sea Horse. She also writes columns and feature stories for local and regional publications.
