In the first race of year, the Dolphins ran at the new course in Perquimans.

This track has never been used competitively in a race, so no one knew exactly what to expect. Even though the Dolphins may have arrived to the course an hour late, we sure didn’t finish last.

The Lady Dolphins do not have a full team, but runner Karen Perez placed 1st overall with a time of 23:05, and Abigail Morris finished 2nd, running a 23:59. Dolphin runner Kaylee Gaskins took 11th place with a 27:52. If the ladies had more runners they unquestionably would have placed 1st in the Conference. There were 27 runners for the girls' race. Team results for the ladies were 1st place, Camden County; 2nd place, Manteo; and 3rd place, Perquimans County.

The boys on the other hand have 8 runners, which is more than enough for a team. (5 is required for a team.) Overall, as a team the Dolphins ran phenomenally. Placing 1st overall was Kevin Perez with an 18:36. Expect this to be a reoccurring trend with the Perez siblings Karen and Kevin taking 1st overall in their races, as both are incredible runners.

Jordi Perez and Evin Caswell took 6th and 7th place with a 20:05 to Jordi and a 20:14 to Evin. Also taking 11th place was Matteus Gilbert with a 21:20, and right behind me was Dalton Kalna with a 21:40 and placing 12th overall. Darvin Conteras ran a 21:52 to secure 14th place, and Carson O’Neal ran a 22:36 placing 18th. Kyle Tillett placed 22nd with a time of 23:32. There were 38 total runners in the boy’s race. The team results for the race were: 1st place, Ocracoke; 2nd place, Manteo; and 3rd place, Perquimans County. The race is a 5k which is approximately 3.1 miles.

The Cross Country teams are coached by Ocracoke School teachers Kitty Mitchell and Adam Burleson.
