Second Grade Showcase
The students invited their families to join them while they shared their stories, both personal and recount narratives. The authors displayed their writing on their desks and parents and guests were invited to walk around and discuss the work with their authors. Then each student was allowed to select a story that they would like to read aloud to the audience and sit in the very special “Author’s Chair.” This chair is special because as students complete the writing process and “publish” their work, they are allowed to read their stories to the rest of the class. The authors consider it a privilege to sit in the “Author’s Chair.”
Several stories at the showcase featured their favorite teacher, Ms. Claudia, or their best friends. Other stories focused on their favorite pastimes, recounting holidays and birthdays, and telling us all about their pets. All of the stories showed thought and effort and were thoroughly entertaining. After the authors’ readings, the guests were treated to refreshments served by the authors themselves.
The Author Showcase is one of several events that the second grade hosts throughout the school year. In addition to the two showcases, Ms. Claudia’s students will also present a Cultural Museum and a Class Marketplace later in the year.

It is always nice to get a chance to see what the Ocracoke School students are up to and it is exciting to see how talented and creative they all are. The 2nd Grade Author Showcase was a success for the students and the teacher.
