Split Decision on Senior Night
Both are lifelong students of Ocracoke School. Diana was promoted early in the school year, and will graduate after three years of playing Dolphin high school basketball. The floor leader, she scored over 500 points, and has both over 100 steals and 100 assists on her athletic resume.
Casey Tolson also received loud cheers from the home crowd. A member of the Beta Club and the Volunteer Fire Department, well-rounded Casey also enjoys "long romantic golf cart rides, hunting and fishing," announced high school English teacher Charles Temple.
The Lady Dolphins outpaced the visiting Creswell Tigers, 45-29, continuing their undefeated season. Diana matched Lucy O'Neal as the game high scorers, with 18 each.
The Dolphins had a chance to tie or win in the final seconds, after fighting hard in a fourth quarter comeback against the Tigers. It was a night where the home team never quite found their groove, and the basket seemed to be covered with an invisible layer of saran wrap. Easy lay-ups popped in and back out, and jump shots clanged around the rim, failing to drop. It was a heartbreaking 52-54 loss, that should nevertheless give the team confidence that they have a good chance for a victory should they meet Creswell in the post-season.
Thanks to Trudy Austin for sharing photos of Senior Night. Congratulations to Casey and Diana!
