Ocracoke School Athletic Boosters Club has offered great support to students and coaches.

Founded last year, the Boosters Club raises money for the school athletic programs.

Basically, the Boosters will pay for "anything the coaches ask for," said David Scott Esham, who serves as the group's president. Other officers are Garick Kalna, Jim Piland, Kari Styron, and Serina O'Neal.

After the new gym as open, the Boosters fixed up a concession stand, with a regulation sink, a hotdog cooker, and new counters and storage. They also did a brisk business in Dolphin merchandise – hats, t-shirts, pajama pants, sweatshirts, bleacher cushions, temporary tattoos, plastic cups, and more. Ocracoke has embraced the school colors, and loves to show off their Dolphin pride. 

As Ocracoke School grows and develops new team sports (volleyball! baseball! cross country!), the need for Boosters support grows, too. The Boosters sent out the following letter to local boxholders and the Ocracoke Current offered to re-print it here so that our off-island readers can know about all the good they're doing. Go Dolphins!

"Dear Parents and Community Members,

The 2011 - 2012 athletic season was a great success due in no small part to the support provided by all of you. From the funds generated via banner sales and concession sales at our home basketball games, the Boosters club was able to purchase uniforms and equipment for the first ever Ocracoke Middle School Baseball team, contribute to the middle school/high school camping trip, split the costs of adding the sod to the playground, and renovate and outfit the new concession stand, just to name a few things. At the end of the school year we had accumulated just under $15,000 net to be used for the 2012-13 season. None of this could have been done without the support of our wonderful community and parents.

Thus far for the 2012-13 season we have purchased volleyball uniforms and equipment to help get the first ever Middle School and Varsity Volleyball teams up and running. We have also purchased Cross Country uniforms and warm ups for both the Middle School and High School teams too! Miss Kitty’s hard work with running club and cross country is really paying off! Please thank her if you run into her around town. Both Coach B and Coach Dave have submitted requests for their high school basketball teams as has Jason Wells for his middle school boy’s team. So many parents and community members have contributed to the successes of these teams that we can’t possibly thank everyone individually, but please know that your contributions are much appreciated and recognized.

We are now beginning our 2012-2013 fundraising efforts through the renewals of our school banners. The gym is filled with these banners supporting our teams and is a wonderful indication of the support that our student athletes have from us all! If you already have a banner, the renewal rate is just $150 for the year and includes membership in the Athletic Boosters Club. If you do not have one yet, but would like to join the fun, the cost for the first year is $250 and also includes membership for the year in the Ocracoke School Athletic Boosters. Banners can be for businesses or individuals. We also welcome individual memberships for $25 for the year and family memberships for $35 for the year as well!
