Police Blotter 5/1/2012

The last week of April started slow and stayed slow for Ocracoke police.

On Friday night officers responded to a small altercation at a local bar.  No crime was committed, reported Sergeant Jason Daniels.  The disagreeing parties were asked to leave the property, which they did.

A few highly intoxicated men were spotted urinating on the side of the road Saturday night.  This is, in fact, a crime.  If you are charged with indecent exposure you will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of your life.  Make the wise choice to manage calls of nature so that no one will have to see the naughty bits.

Congratulations to Sergeant Daniels, who was recognized as Hyde County Employee of the Month!  Daniels worked as a commercial fisherman before becoming a prison guard in 1996.  In 2000, he began serving as a deputy with the Belhaven Police Department, and made the move to Hyde County in 2003.

Heading into his 10th summer on Ocracoke, Daniels said, with his usual good nature, that he and the Ocracoke Sheriff's Department are ready for the island to start to rock.
