Lady Dolphins to Host State Play-Off Game

The Lady Dolphins have had a great season and it's not over yet!

Ocracoke Lady Dolphins took second place in the Tideland Conference Tournament Championship game Friday night. They played against the Columbia Wildcats, with whom they share the title of conference co-champions, at the Hatteras School’s gym in a tough game that resulted in a Dolphins 28 to Wildcats 37 score.

Though this game finished out the conference season for the Lady Dolphins, they will continue to the first round of the state playoffs tournament due to their overall winning record. Ocracoke will be hosting a game tomorrow,  February 20th, at 6 p.m.

The Dolphins had played the Columbia Wildcats three times already this season, losing twice and winning once. The Wildcats have a powerful inside force in Gibbs, and two powerful shooting guards, Basnight and Burton.

The Dolphins put up a good fight however, with Katie O’Neal playing an especially good defensive game along with Cassandra Hagins’s impressive rebounding. Lucy O’Neal and Echo Bennink dominated the scoring with an extra two points added by Samantha Styron. For their effort in this game and making it all the way to second place in the tournament, the Lady Dolphins took home a trophy, Ocracoke School’s first conference trophy.

Everyone on the island should turn out for Monday’s home game vs. the Weldon Chargers as it promises to be just as exciting as the Dolphins’ previous games. If you can’t make it to the Dolphin Tank tomorrow then you can tune in to WOVV 90.1, or online at wovv.org, and listen to live coverage.
