Ocracoke Express Returns

Pending USCG final approval, the Ocracoke Express will begin its 2020 season on Friday, July 3rd. 

Fares will be $5 per person one-way.

It will leave Hatteras at 9:30, 1 and 4; Ocracoke departures are at 11, 3 and 8.

The ferry division had originally announced that they wouldn't offer the Ocracoke Express passenger-only service this year due to concerns with COVID-19. 

But the NC Legislature passed a bill in late June that appropriated funds for the Ocracoke Express. (Bill 750 reads "the Department of Transportation, Ferry Division, shall lease a passenger ferry vessel for operation between Hatteras and Ocracoke. The term of the lease shall end no later than September 10, 2020.")

Hyde County manager Kris Noble reported that the tram system that complements the passenger ferry could be up and running as early as the weekend.
