Current Events March 9-17

 

Monday, March 11th:

7pm: Lonely Hearts Books @ Ocracoke Library Stop by to meet the LONELIEST BOOKS in the library -- the ones that have NEVER been checked out. Maybe one is the perfect match for YOU! (You can at least give them a look -- and enjoy some snacks and get entered in the door prize drawing!) The Lonely Hearts book display will feature dozens of YA and Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction titles.

Tuesday, March 12th: 

6:30pm: Open Jam @ Coyote Music Den, 6:30-8:30pm – sing, play, listen – all ages, all levels welcome (youth are encouraged to come at 6:30). Every Tuesday night through March. No charge, but donations welcome.

Wednesday, March 13th:  

6pm: Civic Affairs Meeting @ Community Center. OCBA will host the civic affairs meeting. All are welcome to come out and see what's happening with local government and organizations.

7pm: Island Trivia @ Gaffer's Just $2 to play; create a team of up to 4 players. Proceeds will benefit a good cause! Show off how smart you are!

7pm: Word Play @ Coyote Music Den, 7-8:30pm. If you love words … bring something you wrote, read, heard and share, listen or tell a story. Every Wednesday night through March. No charge, but donations welcome.

Friday, March 15th:

11:30am-2pm: Ocracoke Lighthouse open for viewing. You can go in, but not up! It's a great photo op. The Lighthouse is opened by NPS volunteers - be sure to thank them! Today's volunteer is Andy Hawkins. 

7pm: Kids Movie Night @ Library This week we'll watch "Ralph Breaks the Internet" the sequel to "Wreck-It Ralph"! 7-9:15pm. Snack provided. Bring a pillow or blanket to get comfy on the floor.

10am: Village Litter Pick-Up Sponsored by Ocracoke Beta Club. Meet at the front of the school for supplies. The island needs a Spring Cleaning!

2pm: Open Auditions for "A Tale of Blackbeard" musical @ Deepwater Theater. Be a part of our cast and crew! 2019’s summer production of A Tale of Blackbeard will run from July 1-August 12, Monday nights at Ocracoke School for a total of 7 shows. Audition instructions: 1. Drop by anytime between 2-4 on March 16. You may make an appointment to audition on March 17 if you can’t make the 16th. Contact Desirée Ricker at desireer@ocracokealive.org if you have any questions. 2. We provide scripts for cold readings. Be prepared to sing a song (Happy Birthday will work!) 3. Wear comfortable shoes that are easy to move in. We will be teaching an easy dance. 4. Auditioners will fill out an audition form, and will be measured for costume size. 5. Have fun!

Current Events March 9-17

Sunday, March 17th: 

Services @ both churches: Ocracoke United Methodist (Taize service 7am; Sunday School 10am; service at 11am) and Ocracoke Assembly of God (Sunday School 10am, services at 11am and 6pm; also Wednesday night service at 7pm).

12pm: St. Patrick's Day Parade No Registration, No Entry Fees, just be present at 1718 Brewery from the start of the parade until the finish at O'Bar. Louis the Leprchaun will choose the winners and award the prizes during the Ocracoke St. Patricks Day Parade Party.

Looking ahead....

Mark your calendar! Ocracoke School PTA's Variety Show will be Friday, March 22nd at the Community Center. Songs! Stories! Dancing! Tricks! Monologues! Ocracoke’s got talent! Registration forms are in the school office. Community members also encouraged to participate. You do not need to be an Ocracoke student. If you want to be in the audience, admission is just $3!
