Going to the Candidates' Debate, Yeah

County commissioner candidates will debate Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1pm at the Community Center.

Going to the Candidates' Debate, Yeah

All are welcome to attend. The four candidates running for two open seats on the Hyde County Board of Commissioners will answer questions on Ocracoke issues and take questions from the audience.

The two new commissioners will represent the Swan Quarter and Currituck Townships but are elected by the county at large. The Currituck candidates are Shannon Swindell, who is running as Unaffiliated, and Ken Collier, Republican. For Swan Quarter, Chris Williams is campaigning as a write-in candidate; James "Little Brother" Topping is on the ballot as a Democrat.

The Hyde County Democrats, Ocracoke Precinct group is hosting the event. Coordinator Carol Pahl has posted the following as one of the questions that will be posed to the candidates: "Do you think that the Ocracoke Sheriff’s Department, Solid Waste and EMS can be improved? If so, how? Where will the funding come from?"

Bring your own questions and join in the discussion! Voting is more fun when you're more informed!
