The boys head to Camden and the girls to South Robeson on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd.

Update 2/23/16: Both Dolphins teams lost on the road, in Camden and South Robeson. Congrats to all for a great season of Dolphins basketball!

Out of thirty-two teams in the eastern 1A division, the Ocracoke Dolphins rank at #22. They will play the Camden County Bruins at Camden on Tuesday. The Dolphins lost to Camden last week in the conference tournament, but they have beaten them at home this season, so it should be an exciting game.

The Lady Dolphins just missed out on getting a home game for the state play-offs – they are ranked at #17 (#16 and lower get to host games). Instead, they get to travel to South Robeson, which is "somewhere between Lumberton and Perdro's South of the Border" according to Ocracoke School athletic director Charles Temple.

Evin Caswell was named Player of the Year for the Coastal 10 conference last week at the tournament games hosted by Columbia High School. The boys' coach, Dave Allewalt, was voted Coach of the Year (all the conference coaches get a vote, and you can't vote for yourself!). Congrats, Evin and Dave!

After exciting wins in Dolphin Tank (see below), both teams lost in the next round of conference play-offs. The girls lost to the Manteo Redskins, due mostly to injuries to three key players who had to leave the game.

The playoffs on February 16th were the first time ever that the Ocracoke Dolphins have hosted a conference tournament game. We will start with the first game of the Ocracoke Dolphins verses the Hatteras Hurricanes. It was an exciting game with a half court shot made from Karla Perez and a win with a score of 46-44 in favor of Ocracoke. Some stats from the game are Sydney Austin scored 20 points, Karla Perez made 6 points, Ingrid Contreras scored 8 points, Bricia Moreno made 6 points, Josie Winstead scored 2 points.

Moving on to the varsity boys' game: The boys played the Creswell Tigers. The score of this game was 52-45 with a win for the Dolphins. Some stats from the game are Evin Caswell scored 14 points, Liam Caswell made 12 points, Darvin Contreras scored 14 points, and Dalton Kalna made 8 points. That wraps up the first playoff game for the Ocracoke Dolphins.

"It's been a tremendous season," said Charles. "We beat teams we've never beaten before, and both teams finished in the top 4 of the Coastal 10 conference. Everyone at the school is very proud of the players and coaches."

Go Dolphins!
