Cape Hatteras National Seashore Seeking Information About Suspicious Wildland Fire

Cape Hatteras National Seashore Law Enforcement staff are investigating a suspicious fire found on Seashore property. 

On Tuesday January 12, Nags Head and Roanoke Island Fire Departments extinguished a human caused fire south of Whalebone Junction and on the east side of N.C. Highway 12.  The human caused fire put fire fighter lives and local residences at risk.

If you were driving this section of road on N.C. 12 between 6:30 pm to 7:00 p.m. on January 12, 2016 and saw any suspicious activity or vehicles along the road edge in this area, or if you have any other information about the cause of this fire, please call the Dare County Crime Line.

Anyone with knowledge of this incident can leave anonymous information with darecommunitycrimeline.org or call (252)-473-3111 or (800)-745-2746.  The National Park Service through the Dare County Crime Line Office is offering a reward for information leading to the conviction of the responsible person(s) involved in this crime.
