There's so much to be grateful for on Ocracoke.

Please share what you're thankful for in the comments. The Ocracoke Current is thankful for you, our dear readers! Thanks for your continued support! We wish you the juiciest of turkeys, creamiest of pumpkin pies, and the happiest of Thanksgiving Days this year. 

UMW Bake Sale: Stop by the Variety Store on Wednesday, November 25th for the annual Thanksgiving bake sale. Take home some whole cakes and pies that your family will be grateful for!

The bake sale starts at 1pm and proceeds benefit the United Methodist Women.

Art Opening at Down Creek Gallery: Come out to the see the beautiful work by photographer Melinda Sutton and enjoy music by Raygun Ruby, adult refreshments, and hors d'oeuvres. Wednesday evening the 25th starting at 5pm.

The Ocracoke Assembly of God Church will host their annual Friends and Family Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner at 5pm. The church will provide turkey and meats; please bring a side dish or dessert. All are welcome! If you can please RSVP to Pastor Ivey Belch (921-0021 or worship@ocracokeislandag.org) by the 24th, that will help make sure they cook enough for everyone!

Ocracoke Oyster Company (252-928-0020) is serving a Thanksgiving buffet from Noon-4pm. The full menu will also be available!

Gaffer's Sports Pubs (252-928-3456) also serving a full Thanksgiving buffet with all the trimmings, Noon-5pm. Their full menu is available 11am-2am. 

Black Friday is safe and fun on Ocracoke! 

 

Shop local and find something for everyone on your list!

Save some room in your tummy for the Fish Fry Fundraiser at Native Seafood from Noon-4pm on Friday. $10 will get you a fried flounder plate and fixins. Proceeds benefit the Ocracoke Lady Dolphins basketball team.  

Roxy's Antiqueswill be hosting an Open House on both Friday and Saturday from 1–5pm. Come out and enjoy refreshments and sales!

Books to be Red will be Books to be ColoRed again this Friday, 6–8pm. Color your stress away with the latest fad sweeping the nation! All you need is provided at the Coloring Party, including refreshments!

On Friday night, come one, come all  to the Ocracoke Alive Thanksgiving Fundraising Concert, 7:30pm at the Ocracoke Community Center. The concert features performances by Donald Davis, Gary & Fiddler Dave of Molasses Creek, Capt. Rob Temple, Sundae Horn, Jef the Mime, Scott Paulson & Barb Smith and more! Proceeds go to support Ocracoke Alive's programming in the community. The Magic Bean will be on hand to provide drinks and goodies. It's a great way to spend the day after turkey day! Some pre-sale tickets are available online at www.ocracokealive.org and some will be available at the door. Tickets are $15 adults; $7 kids.

On Saturday, Books to Be Red will host a Holiday Open House! Sales and refreshments. 1–4pm.   Zillie's annual Holiday Open House, Noon-6pm. Complimentary spiced apple cider, hot mulled wine, holiday treats, and secret surprise savings are all part of the plan for this festive afternoon!    Also this week: Enjoy your last chance to be grateful for the offerings at these local establishments:

The Pony Island Restaurant will be open for breakfast (7 – 11:30am) everyday through November 29th, except Thanksgiving Day.

Jason’s Restaurant will be open for lunch (11am – 2:30pm) and dinner (5 – 9pm), Monday – Saturday, (except Thanksgiving Day) through Saturday, November 28th.  

Ocracoke Coffee Company is open everyday 7am – Noon (closing a bit early on Thanksgiving Day). They will pour their last cup of the season on Sunday, November 29th and reopen before Easter in March.

'sMacNally's will be open – weather permitting – through Thanksgiving weekend.

Graceful Bakery is open Tuesday – Sunday, 7am - Noon, through Thanksgiving weekend.

Magic Bean Coffee Bazaar is keeping summer hours until after Thanksgiving, 6am–6pm, 7days/week.

Dajio Restaurant is closed for the season, but Dajio Flatbread Pizza and Bar will remain open in November. Hours are Wednesday-Sunday 5-10 Call for pizza 252-928-7120

Christmas is coming, too! Remember to check our Happy Holidays and Calendar pages to find out all about the island celebrations. Good times ahead!

Get creative! The 3rd Annual "Ocracoke Through Your Eyes" show will feature small works by local artists – maybe you! Stop by the Museum, pick up a canvas, and be a part of the show! Or call the museum at 252-928-7375 and they will mail you one!  The canvasses are due back to the museum by January 10th. A wine-and-cheese reception and art opening is planned for Saturday, January 23rd, from 5 – 7pm at the Museum.

Wanted: arty people. The Ocracoke Alive Arts Partnership teacher application is open at www.ocracokealive.org  Each week (January-May 2016) features two guest artists, who teach 5 or 6 hour-long classes on a particular medium. Ages of students range between preK – high school. On-island artists receive a stipend and off-island artists receive a week's worth of housing for themselves and up to three guests. Check the website for more details!

The Community Christmas Concert will be December 12th at 7pm at Community Center. Performers of all ages welcome! Let Sundae (921-0283) know if you'd like to be in the show. It's free and fun for all!
