Calvin Dallas Burrus, Jr, 83, of Buxton died on October 16, 2014 at his home.

Born in Hatteras, he was the son of the late Calvin Burrus, Sr. and Essie Spires Burrus. Mr. Burrus served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1950 until 1953, and was the County Commissioner from 1963 until 1966. Calvin was also the first fire chief of Buxton and held this position from 1963 until 1972. From 1963 to 1969, he served on the CHEC board as well. Calvin was an active member of Lighthouse Assembly of God serving as a deacon since 1972. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Loved and respected by all, he will truly be missed.

Mr. Burrus is survived by his wife of 60 years, Milly Burrus; three sons, Dal Burrus of Buxton, Danny Burrus and wife, Olivia of Nags Head and Darren Burrus and wife, Renee of Buxton; six grandchildren, Tyke Ely and wife, Cheri, Cathy Duncan and husband, Paul, Emilie Mason and husband, Shane, Daniel Burrus, Ashley Burrus and Adrian Burrus; and seven great grandchildren, Starr, Dirk, Morgan, Marshall, Ethan, Dallas and Asher. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Don Burrus.

A funeral will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Lighthouse Assembly of God at 3:00pm with the Rev. David Daniels officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Lighthouse Assembly Family Life Center. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church on Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 7:00 until 9:00pm.
