Born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, he was the son of the late Thomas Charles Smith and Corrine McWilliams Roberts and was the companion of Marion Jones Davis.  Mr. Smith was retired from the United States Army and had built, owned and operated Corrine’s Apartments on Ocracoke.

In addition to his companion, he is survived by a daughter, Paula Ann Smith of Walsconburg, NC; two sons, Vernon Thomas Smith of Norfolk, VA and Glenn Ray Smith of Gates, NC; a stepfather, Roy Roberts of Chesapeake, VA; two stepbrothers, Darryl Roberts of Chesapeake, VA and Stewart Roberts of Seabring, FL; and a grandson, Thomas Charles Verdon.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.  Twiford Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 E.
