David sent us a selection of his favorite photos from '13 and '14 and said, "I love seeing all the photography from the 'Coke – it helps us feel connected to one of our favorite places in the world, even though we're almost 500 miles away in Bethlehem, PA."

The last two photos have a story to go with them:

"For years, I've sent a friend pictures of my favorite sunsets during vacation on Ocracoke – it started the year we were away the week of Vacation Bible School, for which she's the director, at the church where I work (I was hoping to offer a little photographic escapism, coupled with a tiny smidge of taunting).

This year, my wife, Amy, and I invited her and her family along (and all were able to make it, except her husband, who recently switched jobs and had to work). Hurricane Arthur delayed our arrival by two days, and I fretted about the weather and access to the island, overcrowded ferries and the like, the whole way down (what's the island equivalent of first world problems?  Mainlander problems?).  I needn't have worried, the trip went exceedingly smoothly, and Ocracoke rolled out one of the most spectacular sunsets I've ever seen there (or anywhere), that evening, soon after we all arrived from Pennsylvania.

I wonder if you can see the sense of wonder that permeated that moment, or the collective sigh, not just of relief, but awe and gratitude for such a magical moment in a magical place.  Our trip was abbreviated, but definitely one of the very best of the fourteen journeys we've taken to the 'Coke.  Glorious!"
